Uganda: Introducing the Human Rights Defenders Protection Bill

In July 2020, Hon. Lyandro Komakech, member of parliament from the Gulu Municipality, filed a motion seeking to leave parliament to introduce “The Human Rights Defenders Protection Bill 2020“. In his request, Komakech exposes the legal basis for such a bill, underlines the need for the protection of human rights defenders in Uganda, and points out the current lack of protection for defenders in Uganda. His request was accepted by members of parliament.
