Europe: Human Rights House Foundation study on protection of human rights defenders

In 2021, the Human Rights House Foundation published a report entitled: “Protecting Defenders in 2021: How to Improve Infrastructure to Help Human Rights Defenders at Risk”. The study covers Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine. In this study, recommendations are made regarding the effective protection of human rights defenders. Recommendations include (amongst others) that effective policies are developed, that protection policies should include a preventive approach focused on capacity building of HRDs, and that the development of strong infrastructure for HRDs forms an integral part of protection policies.
