Democratic Republic of the Congo: draft edict in Sud-Ubangi

A draft edict on the protection of human rights defenders and journalists has been proposed to the Provincial Assembly in Sud-Ubangi. It contains a comprehensive definition of human rights defenders and several obligations of the state such as the obligation to put in place all necessary measures to ensure the social, economic, political conditions and legal guarantees necessary for persons to, individually or within an organisation, exercise all rights formulated within the edict.

Currently, the law is being examined by the Administrative and Judicial Body (PAJ). We will remain updated of the situation and communicate any development on FOCUS.
