Mongolia

In April 2021, the Mongolian Parliament adopted a law for the protection of human rights defenders, making it the first country in Asia to provide a legal framework for it. As UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has said, now it is important that the Bill be implemented according to international standards with a genuine, independent and fully resourced mechanism, setting a high standard for how these laws should be realized throughout the region and beyond. The law will enter into force on 1 July 2021.
