The Rights and Liberties Protection Department of the Ministry of Justice of Thailand has developed the first National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights for the period of 2019-2023. This Action Plan focuses on human rights defenders as one of the central areas. The aim of the Action Plan is to implement the standards set by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The protection of human rights defenders is one of the four key priority areas of the Action Plan. The document establishes the state’s duties in protecting human rights defenders, responsibilities of the business sector in respecting human rights and duties of state enterprises and the business sector in remedying damage to human rights defenders.
Thailand was the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to have developed a national Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. Find the original publication here in English (United Nations Development Programme).
