The Model Law is intended to guide and assist States and other actors to ensure the full and effective implementation of the UN Declaration on the Right and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (the UN Declaration on human rights defenders) at the national level.
Protection International participated in the development of this Model Law, that has already served as a guideline for many draft law processes, like the development of protective legislation for human rights defenders in Niger. The document is available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, Mongolian and Russian.
