Europe: European Union Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders

The EU Guidelines (2008) are a tool for missions of EU Member States and contain recommendations on supporting human rights defenders in non-EU countries, as well as in multilateral fora. They have been developed by the European External Action Service and solely apply on the protection of human rights defenders in the framework of foreign diplomatic missions. They apply to the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
