Status: civil society or public discussions
On May 31, 2019, representatives of international civil society and national civil society (The Sierra Leone Human Rights Defenders Network) met with members of Sierra Leone’s legislative and parliamentary Human Rights Committees to further discuss the draft bill on the protection of human rights defenders presented to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in March 2017 by the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone and Human Rights Defenders Network-SL, and the next stages of its passage.
The Sierra Leone bill is modeled on the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) Model Act; however, no information is available on other developments in the initiative.
