India: The Protection of Human Rights Defenders Draft Law

In 2018, Member of Parliament Shri A.P. J Ithender Reddy introduced the Protection of Human Rights Defenders Bill (Bill No. 222) in Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament. The bill, to be named the Protection of Human Rights Defenders Act, aims to ensure the protection of individuals, groups, associations engaged in protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms in India.

Until now, the process appears to be without no further action. Considering that the bill has remained pending for more than four years and has been since removed from the official register. Therefore, we consider this process as abandoned (update on 08/11/2022).
