Paraguay: Paper on Public Policies for the Comprehensive Protection of Indigenous Defenders of Collective Rights

This analysis, published in April 2021, provides an in-depth analysis of existing protection policies for human rights defenders in Colombia, Mexico, Brasil, Guatemala and Honduras. The document analyses in what way and to what extent indigenous human rights defenders, especially those fighting for environmental causes, are protected by the national mechanisms in place. The aim of the document is to compare the protection mechanisms and draw a conclusion on whether or not these policies can be applied in the context of indigenous defenders in Paraguay. The document also proposes basic elements needed in a policy in order to comprehensively secure the safety of these defenders.
