The Law for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, Journalists, Social Communicators and Justice Operators, published in the Official Gazette La Gaceta No. 33,730 dated fifteen (15) May of the year two thousand and fifteen (2015), in its Article 1) recognises the right of everyone, individually or collectively, to promote and seek the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, as stated in the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Defend Human Rights, which includes the full exercise of Freedom of Expression and Access to Justice.
The State of Honduras, in enacting the Law and its Regulations, highlights the importance of the work carried out by the protected sectors in the promotion and protection of democracy and the rule of law.
